About these courses

Aberdeen Drilling School has been at the forefront of High Pressure High Temperature (HPHT) training for over 30 years. We have delivered over 120 HPHT training projects including classroom training, pre-drilling advice, HPHT competency audits and on-the-rig coaching and mentoring for HPHT Drilling Operations from the North Sea to Newfoundland, Argentina to Alaska, and from Aberdeen to Australia.

Our range of HPHT courses provide the participants with a comprehensive understanding of the well design and operational requirements for HPHT wells. We cover the principles of HPHT well engineering from rig selection through well control and HPHT considerations for casing design, drilling fluids and cement formulations.

Who are these courses for?

These courses are not open to the public. The courses are company-specific and as such can be designed to suit drilling personnel, well planners, and/or senior drill crew depending on the client’s training objectives. Prior well control training and certification is assumed, but HPHT experience is not mandatory. Candidate suitability and assumed base knowledge will be discussed and agreed with the client in the early stages of course development.

When and where are these courses delivered?

These courses are typically classroom and/or simulator-based, but certain modules may also be delivered as virtual instructor-led training. HPHT training is available on request for group bookings, to be delivered at a location selected by the client. We have successfully delivered HPHT training at our global centres on full-size drilling simulators, at clients’ offices, and on the rig.
