This 3-day Deepwater Well Control course with simulation aims to enhance knowledge of well control techniques and operational practices in a deepwater environment to ensure that well engineers and senior rig personnel (assistant driller and above) are aware of the technical and operational issues surrounding deepwater operations.
The course is structured to include operational best practices, design considerations, and well control techniques, and each module aims to emphasise the difference in these compared to standard well operations.
This course has been designed for senior rig crew (assistant driller and above), operator personnel and onshore support teams. The course will promote knowledge, communication, and effective teamwork to ensure subsequent success in a challenging deepwater environment.
It is assumed that course participants will have prior knowledge of Well Control techniques equivalent to IWCF or IADC accredited driller or supervisor level training.

Candidate suitability and assumed base knowledge will be discussed and agreed with the Client in the early stages of course development.
The course is conducted over 3 days through lecture and workshop sessions, combined with practical simulation exercises, case studies and worked examples. It is designed to build on previous knowledge of well control and well design principles.
At the client’s request, this course can make reference to specific requirements of the client (both in well design and operational standards) coupled with reference to the specific operational envelope of the wells, rig and equipment used.
Assessments to establish knowledge prior to the course and to gauge knowledge learned over the 3 days can be performed on request.
Successful completion of the course will result in an Aberdeen Drilling School certificate which is valid for 2 years.
